Announcing the A Safe Haven 2017 Heroes & Hope Gala Benefit For Military Veterans!

It is with great pleasure that my husband, United States Army Military Veteran Brian Rowland, and I, announce A Safe Haven’s 2017 Heroes and Hope Gala.  The event will take place on November 4, 2017, at the beautiful Cinespace Chicago Film Studio Ballroom, and will be an inspirational and elegant fundraiser to celebrate A Safe Haven’s 23 years of impact in Chicago.

This year’s theme “Heroes and Hope” honors community spirit and partnerships that enables A Safe Haven an opportunity to achieve significant milestones over the last year on behalf of the veterans served by our programs.  Over 300 top business, civic and community leaders will gather at the Gala to celebrate 2017 Honoree(s) TBA and our collective work in building healthy, thriving Veterans, their families and community.

We ask you to join us as our Fundraising Gala Sponsor, Purchase A Table, Buy Ticket(s) or support the Silent Auction.  Your support will allow us to reach even more homeless Veterans with quality programs that change lives and strengthen families.  Since 1994, A Safe Haven has been steadfastly serving the needs of Homeless Veterans in the Metropolitan Chicago area.  Last year, 878 Military Veterans were served at A Safe Haven with vital programs such as Interim and Permanent Supportive Housing; Behavioral Health Treatment; Workforce Development, Health and Nutrition; and through our 4th Annual Veterans Stand Down we reached an additional 500 Veterans.

We are deeply grateful to personally meet and work with some of the most courageous veterans, who have received help at A Safe Haven and positively transformed their lives. It is a privilege and an honor to serve those who made tremendous sacrifices on behalf of our country. Veterans arrive at A Safe Haven Foundation suffering from chronic homelessness with multiple barriers to independent living, and we are thankful to be able to leverage public and private partnerships to achieve our mission to assist veterans in crisis. We implore a multidisciplinary team approach to address various needs of recovery and mental health services, pre- and post-transition to supportive housing, and independence.

We ask for your support for this special night to celebrate the bravery, strength, heart and soul; and the many sacrifices made by the Military Veteran we serve.  Please visit our website (www.ASafeHaven.org/gala) for information on Sponsorship Levels, Tickets Purchases, and Silent Auction Donation Form.  All proceeds from this event will directly benefit A Safe Haven’s veterans.  Donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent provided by law — large or small, all contributions are greatly appreciated.
More information about the event may be found on our website (www.asafehaven.org/gala/), or please feel free to contact my office at 773.435.8480.

  • Reflecting on Leadership, What D...

What defines leadership? For many, a leader is defined as a person who possesses lots of charisma, a certain gravitas, the ability to speak eloquently and to inspire the masses. While I always appreciate a good speech, for me nothing beats actions; actions inspire me far more than words. Sadly, throughout history we can all point to some of the most charismatic people in the world, such as Hitler in Nazi Germany or Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge, who used their…

Summer break means something different to you depending on where you grew up. To some youth, summer means travelling abroad with their families to countries in Europe or Asia to visit, tour and to learn about other cultures, to play on sandy Florida beaches, or to pick up a few summer school classes, or for some it means working a few more hours at your part time job to make some extra money before you go back to school. …

  • Each Drop of Support Matters

The success stories of men, women, youth and children completing their recovery programs at A Safe Haven Foundation inspire us and give us hope. I think we can all be more at peace knowing that there is a fully developed and scalable system that exists at A Safe Haven, and just needs to be supported and amplified to replicate its success to help meet the urgent and growing unmet demand for our unique and individualized services across the city,…

The most important link of all is…

  • Mothers Incarcerated

There is nothing more heart-wrenching than to see a mother and/or father being separated from their children. No matter the reason, legal or not.  Over the years, we have all seen too many laws passed with perhaps ‘good intentions’, at the time, only to cause tremendous collateral damage to millions of innocent lives, especially children.  The war on drugs and the trend towards incarcerating those addicted and in desperate need of treatment is a good example. I come from the…
